AdBlue® A to Z: B is for… Breakdown

We’re putting together a comprehensive AdBlue® A-Z to cover all aspects of the mysterious world of AdBlue® Liquid.

B is for Breakdown.

AdBlue® is a colourless liquid that is used in (SRC) selective catalytic reduction technology. Because of new European 6 Emission legislation virtually all new diesel powered vehicles, from tractors to articulated lorries are now fitted with SCR systems.

AdBlue® (also know as DEF in the US) works by ‘breaking down’ the harmful NOx emissions in the fumes produced by diesel engines. The actual liquid is a mixture of synthetically produced Urea and water.

More and more fleet operators are taking delivery of these new diesel vehicles and calculating the amount of AdBlue® liquid needed haas become something of a headache.

Although AdBlue® refilling is supposed to be included in regular car servicing schemes, rather like the mpg figures, early reports are suggesting that AdBlue® use in these vehicles is much higher than the manufacturers figures and more liquid is needed.

If the AdBlue® levels are not properly maintained and warning lights are ignored, the system will eventually stop the car working. We find many of our Car Fleet customers prefer to keep a spare container of AdBlue® in every car in order to make sure they keep their cars on the road.

WavianBlue is the highest quality ISO22241 AdBlue® Liquid available and we sell a range of quantities from small packs of 6 X 2 AdBlue® liquid bottles to large1000 IBC AdBlue® containers and even larger bulk amounts for our bigger customers.
